7 Things You Should Understand About Coaching For Millennials

By Dennis Reed

Being a coach does not mean that you know everything. You learn on a daily basis, and you can still learn new methods of relating and mentoring people. More so, people feel relaxed and peaceful when they are around someone they can trust. Therefore, mentors should learn to connect with the people they are training. This creates a good relationship between them and makes the whole process easier. When you know what a person is going through, you will be better able to offer help. This article will help you to know several things about Coaching for Millennials.

The first thing you should know is that you need to be empathetic and authentic. Be who you are without pretending. People always like or enjoy the company of people that are true to self. This is because these people can understand what they are going through. Therefore, as a mentor and coach, you need to put yourself in the shoes of the person you are coaching.

More so, it is wise to understand that the person you are coaching may be smarter than you. Therefore, it is crucial to be upfront with them from the beginning. If you do this, they will understand you and things will be easier. Also, you should understand that these people can always find other means of getting information. Hence, make sure you are honest and upfront before you coach them.

Do not be quick to give praises where they are not needed. Most people think that praising the young and upcoming players will make them better. However, this is not encouraged because you may make them think that they are good enough. Therefore, encourage them to work hard so that they can earn genuine praises.

Also, this generation does not like waiting. They always want to get things right away. This may work for some people or things but not all the time. Hence, it is wise to train them on how to be patient. Teach them that waiting is not that bad after all as you can get what you want and even better. This will help them to be more patient.

This is a generation that is more comfortable with technology that it is with people. However, to develop strong interpersonal communication skills, these people have to go beyond social media. Encourage and help these people to build more people skills. More so, they need to learn better communication skills so that they relate to people better.

Coaches should always encourage this young generation to be diversified. Even though this may be hard because they like being focused on one thing, show them that diversification is important. This is because they will have more things to chase in life.

More so, strive to create a good and real relationship with these people. Create a good connection with them so that you can have a healthy relationship. Understand that they are not different and they want things that other people want like a good family and a good job.
